After-Work K-BBQ in Gangnam: Garlic Beef Ribs at Pungnyeonjib!!
Working near Samseong Station means that when 6 PM rolls around, you’re always just minutes away from incredible food spots. After a pretty hectic day at the office, a few coworkers and I decided to blow off some steam with a classic Korean BBQ night.
We headed over to Pungnyeonjib (풍년집), a beloved local K-BBQ joint nearby that office workers in the Gangnam/Samseong area swear by.

1. The One-and-Only Star: Garlic-Marinated Beef Ribs!!
Unlike many BBQ spots with overwhelming menus, Pungnyeonjib keeps things wonderfully simple. Their main specialty is Cham-soot-bul So-galbi-sal (charcoal-grilled marinated beef rib fingers).
The beef comes lightly tossed in a fragrant chopped-garlic marinade. As soon as the meat hits the hot charcoal grill, the aroma of garlic and sizzling beef fills the air. The meat is tender, savory, and has just the right amount of chewiness—it practically melts in your mouth.

2. The Secret MVP: Complimentary Doenjang-jjigae
While the beef rib fingers are fantastic, the real hero of Pungnyeonjib might actually be their complimentary Doenjang-jjigae (soybean paste stew) served in a hot earthenware pot.
It’s rich, slightly spicy, and packed with deep savory flavor. Paired with their fresh seasoned lettuce salad (Sangchu-geotjeori), it balances out the rich beef perfectly.

3. Unwinding After a Long Day
There’s something uniquely therapeutic about listening to meat sizzle over glowing coals while catching up with colleagues after work. Accompanied by ice-cold drinks and great food, all the weekday fatigue just melted away.
It was the ultimate post-work comfort meal, and I walked out feeling fully recharged for the rest of the week!
